What is a Safety Action Plan?

The Town of Prescott Valley (Town) has obtained a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan (SAP) grant from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). An SAP is a way to prioritize safety improvements and justify future roadway investment decisions. A formal plan will help communicate more clearly how the Town will increase safety on local roadways and will assist in accessing future funding opportunities.

More information about the SS4A can be found on the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) SS4A program website - https://www.transportation.gov/grants/SS4A.

Plan Purpose

The goal of the SAP is to develop a holistic, well-defined strategy to substantially reduce and eventually prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries throughout the study area. The SAP will focus on all roadway users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, public transit users, motorists, and commercial vehicle operators.

The SAP will be meet the requirements for applying for an SS4A Implementation Grant or Supplemental Planning/Demonstration Activities Grant and could potentially also be used by the Town to support Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), Safe Routes to School (SRTS), or other safety-related transportation grants.

The Safety Action Plan will:

  • Analyze safety needs

  • Identify high-risk locations and factors contributing to crashes

  • Prioritize strategies to address needed safety improvements

Equity Considerations

This plan will be developed using inclusive and representative processes and will identify and address concerns in underserved communities. To learn more about these requirements, visit: https://www.transportation.gov/grants/SS4A
